about julia
Julia Grieshofer is a Chartered Psychologist and researcher whose doctoral work at UCL examined resilience and emotion regulation in professional actors. Her thesis identified two central variables — reflective capacity and emotion regulation — and that research now forms the backbone of her clinical and educational practice.
She trained in Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT) at the Anna Freud Centre, and holds additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). She teaches on the MSc in Performing Arts Medicine at UCL and is a long-standing affiliate of BAPAM.
Her practice was born from a simple observation she made early in her clinical training: that the performing arts create specific psychological demands — around identity, evaluation, public exposure, and the relationship between self and craft — that generic therapy rarely addresses. Everything at the clinic is designed for that.
She sees individual clients in Wandsworth and online. She also consults to organisations, runs workshops, and has developed a suite of clinically-validated online programmes for performers and institutions.
doctoral research
on resilience, emotion, and what acting actually requires.
Julia's doctoral thesis — completed at UCL in 2023 — examined resilience in professional actors and identified emotion regulation and reflective capacity as the two central variables. That research now underpins the clinical and educational work of the clinic.
